Kids and families love community activities which get them outdoors and so it is a great idea to add a fundraising element to those activities.
St Peters Lutheran School in Blackwood did this to great success in 2021 when they held a Bring your kite to school day. They raised an amazing $549 after a very short fundraising period which was even more amazing when you discover that they only have 89 students at this small school. They thought it was a great easy fundraising idea.
An easy fundraising idea for St Peter Lutheran School
The school had a few projects on the go which included raising money for sports equipment and a new media room. So they decided that during Sports week they would hold a ‘bring your kite to school day’. A Zoom kites fundraiser was the perfect match.
The school run an online and paper based campaign over 2 weeks. They had great engagement from the school community, chose $17 as a selling price and so made $6 per kite sold. They sold a great number of kites to deliver their $549 fundraising profit.

As to how they found the fundraiser overall:
“We were surprised at how easy it was. The kites arrived quickly and we were really pleased with how well they flew. I would definitely recommend this fundraiser to other schools”
Our three tips for organising a great kite day at school is:
- Build momentum and excitement – let the kids know it is happening
- Line up your fundraising to make sure the kites will arrive in good time
- Provide other options for those unable to buy kites – like make your own
